The Duck Pond is one of the most beloved places on campus. The grounds surrounding the pond have been used for a myriad of activities for the past 70 years. Academic activities, concerts, research projects, picnics, quiet reflection, creation of artwork, and community activities of all types occur here. Numerous memorial trees are planted around the ponds. In 1993 as part of their 50 year class gift, the Class of 1953 funded numerous improvements to the park including landscaping, a new drop-off area, decks and trail improvements. Many important improvements are still needed including planting of an aquatic plant edge, landscape upgrades (flowering trees and shrubs and stone repair) at the ‘garden rooms’ located along the south border with the Presidents Home (The Grove), and a new wood foot bridge across Stroubles Creek.
