Center for Peace Studies And Violence Prevention: About the Center


The Virginia Tech Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention is a transdisciplinary undertaking intended to build on the cultural, academic, and security initiatives of the university's community that evolved after the tragedy of April 16, 2007. In 2009, the center moved into space on the renovated second floor of Norris Hall.

Mission and Goals

Mission: To create and facilitate transdisciplinary research, education, and engagement opportunities that promote peace, prevent violence, and advance human security on a global scale.


Goals: The CPSVP will advance the scholarship and practice of peace and violence prevention and advance human security on a global scale by:

  1. Promoting the integration of intellectual creativity and practical engagement.
  2. Developing student-centered educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
  3. Fostering the creation of new knowledge through research collaborations across disciplines.
  4. Developing skills and opportunities for engaged leadership for students and faculty.
  5. Establishing collaborative relationships with external partners.
  6. Ensuring a vibrant future for the center by securing and sustaining financial support.
